Shirley L. Small

GROTON Shirley L. (Cohen) (Shapiro) Small, 89, of Groton, died unexpectedly Friday, November 4, 2011 at her home. She was the wife of Max Shapiro who passed away November of 1971.
Born July 30, 1922, in Lowell, she was a daughter of the late Hymen, and the late Kate Cohen, attended the local schools, and graduated from Lowell High School before attending Lowell Commercial College.
Mrs. Small served with the United States Navy during World War II, holding the ranking of a Yeoman Second Class before being Honorably Discharged in 1946.
She was employed as a bookkeeper and secretary for Chelmsford Lock and Key before her retirement. She was a member of the Jewish War Veterans and enjoyed caring for animals and plants.
She is survived by her close friend, Ann Murphy; and many cousins including, Roberta Hamelin and her husband, Richard of Dracut.
She was also the sister of the late Marsha Cohen; and dear companion of the late Bart Hill.
