Mary H. "Helen" McNamara

LOWELL Mary Helen McNamara, 93, of Lowell, died peacefully with her family by her side Friday, February 25, 2011 at Saints Medical Center.

Born April 12, 1917, in Lowell, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and the late Mary (Tomlinson) McNamara. She was educated in the Lowell schools, graduated from Lowell High, and also attended Lowell Commercial College.

She resided in the Belvidere section of the city, and she was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, and very active in the Legion of Mary and the Holy Rosary Sodality. For many years she was the bookkeeper for Fr. John's Medicine and after her retirement she worked as a secretary at the Immaculate Conception Church Rectory. In her younger days, she enjoyed traveling the world, visiting Ireland, England, Mexico and Switzerland just to name a few, and more recently she had been a resident of Rogers Hall since it's opening.

She is survived by her nephews Timothy J. McNamara and his wife, Ann of Hampton, NH, Henry McDermott and his wife, Judy of North Andover, WIlliam McDermott and his wife, Mary Ellen of North Andover; her nieces, Mrs. Joan Griffin of Rye, NH, widow of the late Warren Griffin, Mrs. Maureen O'Kane and her husband, Richard of Rye, NH, Mrs. Joyce Saboliauskas and her husband, John of Chelmsford, and Mrs. Carol Smith of Hollis, NH, widow of the late Kevin Smith; and a sister in law, Mrs. Patricia A. McNamara of Hampton, NH. She is also survived by many grand nieces and nephews. She also leaves a dear friend, Ms. Pat Bedard of Lowell.

She was the last survivor of the McNamara children and the sister of the late Emily McDermott, Atty. William A. McNamara, Joseph T. McNamara, Fred W. McNamara, and the aunt of the late Arleen Steeves.

HER FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH (LOWER CHURCH) AT 12 NOON ON TUESDAY. A PROCESSION WILL FOLLOW FOR BURIAL AT ST. PATRICK CEMETERY.
