LOWELL Leon A. Cook, 83, of Lowell, died after a long illness at home with his family by his side Tuesday, January 25, 2011. He was the husband of Marian H. (Weart) Cook, with whom he celebrated their fifty-ninth Wedding Anniversary this past December.
Born June 7, 1927, in Biddeford, Maine, he was a son of the late Bernard, and the late Eola (Smith) Cook. He was educated in Saco, Maine attending Thornton Academy and Gorham State Teachers College.
Mr. Cook served his country in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of World War II.
He resided in the Belvidere section of the city and was employed as a experimental machinist with Mitre Corporation for thirty years prior to his retirement. He was a skilled woodworker and a respected craftsman, he was truly an artisan when it came to woodworking. True to his profession, he was always keeping up with the latest computer technologies. He also enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and canoeing. But he especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Besides his wife, Marian, he is survived by his children; Russell M. Cook and his wife, Mary Ruth, of Lowell, Kathie L. Sierpina and her husband, Daniel, of Methuen, Audrey M. Burke and her husband, William, of Bow, NH, Richard A. Cook of Orange, and Linda A. Cook of Lowell, a sister, Raymona Cook and her husband, Robert, of Riverton, CT, and his ten grandchildren; Mary and Karen Cook, Shawn, Sandra, and Mackenzie Burke, Cara Leigh Cook, Robert and Sheena Pratt, and William and Kyndra Cook.
