Adrian A. Luz
Prominent Lowell Businessman, WWII Veteran
LOWELL Adrian A. Luz of Lowell passed away peacefully on September 9, 2011 at Saints Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Adrian recently celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary with his cherished wife, Betty (Sweeney) Luz.
Born October 31, 1926 in the Swede Village section of Lowell, he was the eldest son of the late Andrew and Jessie (Mason) Luz. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1944 and immediately entered the United States Navy, honorably serving during World War II.
After completing his service to his country, Adrian returned to Lowell, working at the family business, Luz Bros. Monument, where he successfully directed the firm for 40 years. In 1987, he founded Luz Granite Corporation, where he worked alongside his son until his final weeks. Adrian was a highly respected memorialist in local and national circles for over 60 years, and served as the former president of the Greater Lowell Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Adrian was very active in many local organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Portuguese American Veterans, the Lowell Elks, the Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Ghost Society. In addition, Adrian was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Most of all, Adrian will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family and friends. Adrian successfully and unconditionally provided for, celebrated, and supported his family and friends through his unselfish compassion, generosity, and love. He had great strength and valued each and every day of life.
Besides his loving wife, Betty, he is survived by two children and their spouses, Kathleen Luz Cote and her husband, Mark Cote of Andover, and Adrian “Chip” Luz and his wife, Jennifer (Burns) Luz of North Andover; five grandchildren, Patrick Cote, Owen Cote, Brendan Cote, Adrian Brady Luz, and Nora Luz; a brother, Victor Luz of Lowell; a sister, Jessie DiPalma of California; and many nieces and nephews.
Adrian also was the brother of the late Beatrice (Luz) Painter and the late Helen Luz.
