In January of 2011 the McDonough Family assumed ownership of the Mahoney Funeral Home from the Mahoney/McNamee Family.
We are working on the consolidation of the Mahoney, McNamee and McDonough family histories, but would like to provide some information for those who are interested in the future of The Mahoney Funeral Home.
Thanks to a dedicated staff, we will remain open and occupied as the funeral home itself undergoes some interior and exterior renovations. Currently we are working diligently on updating entranceways, bathrooms, lighting, carpeting, wall treatments, artwork and furnishings. Our building will remain ready to serve you and is currently in great shape as is, however government regulations require we change the bathrooms and entrances to accommodate everyone so we are taking the opportunity to improve the facility to better serve the families of Lowell.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Mahoney/McNamee Family for entrusting us with the continuation of a long family tradition of honest, caring and personal funeral service.
One of the first questions people have been asking is “Are you keeping the name Mahoney Funeral Home?" and the answer is yes, we are. Lowell is a relatively large city and a little old fashioned where mostly everyone knows everyone. So in order to alleviate any confusion the names will remain the same. The Mahoney Funeral Home on Nesmith Street and The McDonough Funeral Home on Highland Street. Grief is an extremely difficult and complex process of emotions. The last thing we would want is any confusion for those families and friends looking to simply visit their loved ones during a wake or a funeral. We think simply stating “The wake/funeral is at McDonough’s” or “The wake/funeral is at Mahoney’s” is a step in the right direction. If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to call us at The Mahoney Funeral Home at 978-452-6361 at any time. Thanks for checking in, we will have more information, including photographs, history and much more as time goes on. We are honored to continue a combined tradition of over 2 centuries of providing meaningful funerals for the families of Lowell, thank you for allowing us that sincere privilege. This year we are adding handicap parking on the right (northern) side of the building you will see this project progress as you pass by giving us more parking on the property and just completed new carpeting through out and new furniture.
Sincerely,
The McDonough Family
